Disorders and the Visual Pathways in the Eye

visual pathways in the eye

The diagram above shows the structure of the visual pathways of the eye. The disorders next to it roughly correspond to the area of the visual pathway that is most affected by them.

Albinism primarily affects the iris and how the nerves cross at the chiasm. It also affects the fovea in the retina.

Cataracts affect the lens.

ROP, Retinal Degeneration and Leber Retinal Amaurosis primarily affect the retina.

Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and Optic Atrophy primarily affect the optic nerve.

Cerebral Visual Impairment affects the visual cortex in the brain.
